Verizon is seeking to add more cell towers, in addition to the approved 9 cell towers, to Poolesville’s water tower. In an effort to improve from a 3G network to the faster 4G network, Verizon requires additional antennas. According to gazette.net, “Verizon pays about $2,500 per month to rent the space atop the town’s water tower. Sprint, Nextel, AT&T and T-Mobile each pay between $2,300 and $3,700 per month for their spaces, Yost said. It was not clear how many cell towers the other companies currently have on top of the water tower.”
The town commissioners need to seek counsel prior to signing a new agreement with the telecom giant. Clearly, the location is ideal, with all of the major carriers utilizing the structure. Therefore, it is important that they seek proper representation to assist them throughout the lease negotiation process. Vertical Consultants has worked with all types of property owners, including municipalities, who are being paid below-market value for the use of their property. The primary reason for this is the lack of information and representation provided for these entities.
